In May 1816 Mary and Percy Shelley travelled to Lake Geneva to stay with the infamous Lord Bryon. It was here, late at night by candlelight, that Mary discussed her fascination of the medical experiments of the 18th century, specifically the ability of animating dead matter and the horrors of restoring a corpse to life.
