Le Cid by Jules Massenet - British Stage Première Sung in French with English surtitles Runtime: 190 minutes including interval Coade Hall Theatre, Bryanston, Blandford Forum DT11 0PX One hundred and six years after Massenet’s death, the Dorset Opera Festival gives the British Stage Première of this epic opera. It has the same basis at the 60s blockbuster film El Cid - which starred Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. Described by 21st century critics as a ‘masterpiece’, Le Cid contains sumptuous, memorable, magnificent music. Come and see for yourself why it ran for 150 performances at the Paris Opera after its première. The Dorset Opera Festival - in its 45th year - is the only organisation in the South West offering live Grand Opera in a country house setting. It features internationally renowned soloists, a chorus of up to 80, and a full orchestra. It offers a large marquee bar, stand-alone picnic pavilions seating up to 10, individual picnic hampers, a 4-course dinner on 27 & 28 July and full afternoon tea at the matinee on 28 July.

When Rodolfo’s friend go off to the Latin Quarter to celebrate Christmas, he is left alone. Mimi arrives looking for a light for her candle. The two of them instantly fall in love.
