Dolby Sound system upgrade (one matinee film showing lost)

The 2.30 matinee screening of 'An Education' on Thursday, 7th January has been cancelled, due to our being able to secure an early date for installation of a new state of the art Dolby sound processing unit at the Regent.

There have been some intermittent problems with the existing sound system, which led to some annoying sound interference at a recent film screening and satellite opera presentation.

"We're determined to give our audiences a top quality experience when they visit our events," says General manager Keith Lancing, "and although we've had to find £8,800 to buy and install this kit, we believe it means a high quality and problem-free experience for our customers. It's also compatible with the digital cinema equipment we expect to install in the future, so it's part of our investment in 'future-proofing' our services too."

Coco replaces soul

On 31st October at 7.30, and at 2.30 and 7.30 on Sunday 1st November, we are bringing back the film Before Chanel (Avant Chanel) in French with subitles. This follows the recent successful short run of the film, which was much admired by those who came.

These showings replace two cancelled events: The film Rocky Horrow Picture Show, which we have regretfully cancelled due to licensing issues, and The Team with Angelo Starr, cancelled by mutual consent with the promoter, doe to lack of support.

We apologise to patrons who have tickets for this event, and of course refunds are available.

Jet Harris - 6 September; line-up changed due to illness

Due to illness, Jet Harris is unable to make the 6th September date at the Regent Centre. Rather than leave a gap, we have agreed a changed line-up for this date, which will still include Billie Davis and the Rapiers, but will also now include Mike Berry and Tony Rivers. The ticket prices stay the same, and tickets bought for Jet Harris will be valid for this event. Anyone who has bought tickets for this concert, but who does not wish to keep them in view of the changed line-up, will be entitled to a refund.

New Box Office system installed

This Sunday (22nd March 2009) a new box office will be installed, replacing the venue's first computerised system which has been selling tickets here since 2004. We expect Internet booking to be offline for up to 7 days, while the system is being changed over. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and ask you to book by phone or in person during this time.

There are two main advantages of the new system: Firstly, when you book tickets on the Internet, you will be able to see which seats are available, and can choose the seats you want. Secondly, the ongong running costs and charges are much lower than our current system. These savings will mean that we can avoid increasing prices. We will also continue to offer Internet, telephone, postal and in-person bookings without charging any booking fees.

The Board is investing in the new system (including all hardware and software costs) and the savings will pay for this in 2-3 years. During the last 12 months we have sold over 90,000 tickets to events at the Regent - an increase of 21% over the previous 12 months. We hope our new box office will enable us to continue the trend!
